The week of media literacy is starting again

08.11.2023

In a world where digital media are an important part of our daily lives, media literacy is of great importance. With Media Literacy Week, Netwerk Mediawijsheid is committed to teaching children to recognize the opportunities and dangers of their digital environment. DTT, together with Netwerk Mediawijsheid, developed the Serious Game MediaMasters, which is played annually by more than 160,000 students. From November 9 to November 17 it's going on again and we're looking forward to it!

Media Literacy & DTT Network

In 2021, DTT was commissioned to re-develop the concept of MediaMasters, a national Serious Game for primary schools, in collaboration with Netwerk Mediawijsheid, the Netherlands Institute for Sound & Vision and the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science. The aim of this game is to make children aware of the opportunities and dangers of digital media. MediaMasters is used every year during Media Literacy Week in groups 7 and 8 of primary schools. During these days, students play the Serious Game together in class and learn about important matters such as social media, privacy and Artificial Intelligence.

#Nothere

This year, from November 9 to 17, 2023, the week will focus on the theme #Nothere, which focuses on protesting against unwanted and offensive behavior online. The campaign week is particularly visible in primary schools and local libraries, where various activities take place.

The theme #Nothere emphasizes the importance of respectful behavior online. While positive responses are often the norm, negative messages can disrupt the online environment. Swearing, hurtful comments and inappropriate 'humor' have no place in a healthy online society. During Media Literacy Week, extra attention is paid to how we interact with each other online and various activities are organized throughout the country. On the official website of Media Literacy Week you will find the latest research and tips on how to respond to offensive behavior online.

Several organizations, including TikTok and Unicef, have joined the campaign to combat online offensive behavior. They declare that there is no room for hate speech, insults, threats and other forms of online offensive behavior on their social media channels. It is also possible for your organization to participate in these initiatives.

MediaMasters for a media-wise future

In collaboration with the MediaMasters team, we have further optimized and expanded the Serious Game this year. DTT is enthusiastically ready to facilitate these educational and inspiring days. Together with MediaMasters, we are determined to contribute to awareness of media literacy and a positive online environment. We are convinced that this updated version of the game will be a success and help even more children to use digital media wisely and responsibly. Together we are committed to a media-wise future!

Can we also help your organization with developing a Serious Game? Please feel free to contact us.
